Red crested pochard?

We have been out today walking around Fen Drayton lakes and eventually into St Ives.

Having survived a brief visit to Waitrose, we wandered through the town and I ended up on the quayside by the River Great Ouse. This is a popular spot where people feed swans, pigeons, coots, gulls and many mallard, both 'pure' and variants. It is also right in the middle of town.

I saw a bird which I thought might be a pochard hybrid. When I got home and checked my books, it looked as though I had caught a male red crested pochard.

One male and two females have been seen at Paxton Pits. I have no idea whether or not this one is linked to them.

I do hope I am right - at least I know that it is neither a willow warbler nor a chiffchaff!
