| | | Re: Duck Wings... Ella, Its hormones despite the time of year. We have a cockerel who will actually jump at you with spurs flying (and you need to keep clear of them). We also have a pheasant that actively seeks you out (he will cross an entire field) and does the same thing. I actually enjoy these little sparing matches, especially with the pheasant, as its not often you get that close and "interactive" with something wild! Luckily, ducks don't have these nasty spurs but even with a blunted beak can give a sharp peck!! |

| | | Re: Duck Wings... Hi Ella , He's getting to the age when his 'purpose' is to be responsible for the survival of his species, which entails protecting his mate. Also he intends to be HER ONLY MATE (his own survival instinct). You will have to watch that he doesn't wear the duck down in the mating season, as it's normal to put several ducks with one drake, for this reason, especially as he is already showing signs (in my opinion)of being a strong aggressive stud.Constant or frequent mating by him could wear her down, make her weak, she could get very depressed, stop eating, because she could become nervous of too frequent 'attacks'. Hopefully he will NOT be like this, but I thought I'd warn you, because nobody warned me, and I wished they had. I had to rush out and get 3 more ducks, but even that didn't work because he still picked on the original one that he had worn down, both physically and mentally in a way, cos she was so nervous by this time. Sorry to be so gloomy, and you might be lucky,I hope so, Good Luck and let us know how it goes.POSIE. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
