| | | Bird ID again No pics and precious little info...
Was out with the dog today near an abandoned orchard when I saw a thrush-sized bird, brown plumage with a bright orange-red rump disappear into a hedge. It appeared to be very shy and kept its distance - I couldn't get near it at all.
What might it be? |

Black Redstart may be a possibility, they can look quite 'brown' and winter on the coast in the SE. |

Ken | Most definitely wasn't a GSW!
The rump was russet-coloured (orangey-red, like a redstart) and the rest of the bird was brownish. Sounds like a female redstart to me - could it be one at this time of year?
I went back there today but no luck. |

. | Would be a couple of months late (as mentioned earlier, they winter in Africa) but not impossible, there's usually a few hanging around still first few weeks of October but most migrate in September.
could you have had brief views of a Grey partridge? (Bigger than a Thrush but size can be hard to judge accurately in the field) Galleriet - Netfugl.dk | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
