Over the last few months we have had a cat thats terrorising the birds, ive no idea who owns it or where its coming from, i can`t get close enough to it to see if its got an address tag on its collar as it just scarpers.
This cat appears morning, noon and night. Its latest tactic is to hide in a bush a few feet away from where the bird table is and then it pounces on the ground feeders, ive seen it doing aerial jumps to try and get at the finches that are on the hanging feeders just under the bird table.
This morning i spotted it as bold as brass walking across the lawn with a bird in its mouth, i tried to get the pesky critter but it scarpered with the bird. In the past ive found finches with heads missing and other badly injured birds where its obvious its been a cat attack.
Rcently we have had a sparrowhawk take up residence in our garden, now this cat has that much front that its come back again this afternoon even after me chasing it this morning, i spotted it in a pounce position on our fence just under some over hanging branches, this fence is where we get a lot of doves and pigeons sitting and the cat is well covered by the over hanging branches, also the sparrowhawk has started to make this same spot his favourite place to observe our garden.
Is it fair to bring in so many birds with this poxy critter of a cat hanging about ? Judging by how bold this cat is and catching sight of it with a bird in its mouth this morning i wouldn`t mind betting thats its killing birds on a daily basis when nobody is around, ive seen it at first light, mid day and late evening. Its obviously out a lot.
Whats the fairest thing to do by the birds ? I don`t want it to get the sparrowhawk next as it was hiding under some tree branches right by the place where the sparrowhwak perches and where other birds land.
I can put up with a normal cat as thats just a way of life, this thing is a killing machine with a lot of front, its not fair on the ground feeders either having this thing waiting to pounce from under a bush.
No matter where i put the bird table or bird food this cat just follows the bird food around as it knows the score and knows birds will be along very soon, i know everyone has cat problems from time to time and i know their isn`t much you can do.
Its just this particular cat is well beyond the norm, its an outright killing machine and i don`t think its fair on the birds to feed them while its around and active.
