| | | Strange bird sound early this morning woken by a strange bird sound coming from silver birch outside window sounds like someone running finger along edge of a comb, one long tone, kept repeating. I live in north surrey with plenty of trees around, is there a good site where I can identify bird sounds? |

| | | Re: Strange bird sound early this morning The RSPB has recordings of bird sounds in its lists of species. If you go to the website and follow the links to birds by name you should find the sounds on individual pages. Someone else might be more specific about the species it could be. Greenfinches can make a long rasping wheezy tweeeee sound if that makes sense! I only identified that one after reading his description of it in Rory McGrath's book Bearded Tit. I usually find written descriptions of bird songs difficult to grasp. BTW I have found that the RSPB sound recordings don't always reproduce the whole range of a bird's song so it's not entirely representative. |
