| | | A few firsts.. (for me!) Hi all,
Just had to share my amazing morning -
1. Looked out of my study window first thing to see a wren checking out my newly installed nest box only to be followed shortly after by a couple of Great Tits. Great I thought
2. I've also recently put up one of those see-through plastic window feeders but up until today, no takers. Then whilst I'm up against the window watching the potential new tenants, a young starling lands on it right at my nose and happily goes about splashing around gobbling up anything and everything for a good few minutes.
3. Whilst I daren't move and risk startling it a Greater Spotter Woodpecker lands on my garden fence, hops along it a little, jumps onto a bamboo type pole holding up one of my plants to inspect down the top of it before checking out the peanut feeder and off. A first for my garden bird list!
A fantastic action-packed few minutes (well, they were thrilling for me anyway) and all before breakfast. Who needs Autumnwatch??!! (Well, I do actually, I'm kind of addicted to it lol)
Take it easy

It's always a thrill to see a new garden bird and a Great Spotted Woodpecker is a great garden bird to have seen as well.
Let's hope it decides to pay you some more visits. |

| | | Re: A few firsts.. (for me!) That's great, your garden can be such a haven for birds, we have a pair of great spotted woodpeckers and although they do go for the peanut feeder sometimes, their main aim is straight for the fat squares - they love them.
Enjoy your garden

Yes, I was really pleased to see my first garden GSW. Could you tell!!??
I've got a few good photos of them before when I've been out and about (my favourite ones were at Marton Mere - see below) but I'd never seen one out of my window before!
Yep, I'll be hoping for it to return again. I've got all sorts out on my feeding stations, including fat balls, sunflower hearts, sparrow mix, niger seed, peanuts, etc, so I'll keep my finger crossed! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
