hi all went up to leighton moss today and heres a list of what i observed bearded tits hooper swans 3. mute swans teal. pochard. tufted duck. great white egret. little egrets. great crested grebe. gooseander. gadwall. pintail. golden eye. shoveler duck. cormarants. herons. moorhens. coots .mallards. bullfinch. chaffinch. goldfinch. blue tits. great tits. long tail tits. robins, wrens. blackbirds.crows.magpies.jackdaws. pheasants. i went today as they do a bearded tit walk and put out grit trays of which i have got a few snaps and when ive worked out how to get them on to the computer will put them on. the 2 people who did the walk were called mike malpass and andrea nice people. and no i didnt see the elusive bitterns but heard them as i was in the hide at 1st light. they told us that they had just rung 105 juvenille bearded tits and also showed us the nest boxes they make for them . very enjoyable day and will go back in the spring and recomend a visit to anyone who gets the chance. rossy.

great, thanks for posting all that. we're going to the lakes next week and are hoping to have 2 days at leighton moss before heading further north. really hope we get to see the bearded tits, would absolutely make my day

ok sprout hope the weather holds out as it was very warm and if you walk down the road on the way to the public hide on the right hand side amongst the ivy couldnt help notice how many wasps still very active. the beardies are on the trays to your right as you go to the public hide you will hopefully see them. i visited all the hides and it was busy they reckon around 110 thousand visited last year let me know how you get on regards rossy.

Did you stay for the Starlings rossy? Just wondering if there are big groups there just now, thinking of calling in one afternoon in the next week or so.

no richard set off back at 3pm didnt cross my mind to be honest. was there from 7am and enjoyed every minute. other people on here had mentioned it but it slipped my mind think i need to eat more fish. must be quite a spectacle though and dare say they make a little bit of noise.

I remember having one of my great wildlife moments there a few years ago. I was watching a bittern that has come into view through the scope then all of a sudden 3 marsh harriers, a spoonbill and family of Bearded Tits appeared in view without even having to move the scope.

I was up there on the 27th and saw one of the great white egrets, i think there are three at the moment. Also saw peregrine at warton crag and two raven. leighton moss and the surrounding woodland always make for a great day out
