| | | Got it! Not been able to fish for a few months, but with my sciatica almost away now I went up to a smallish pond last night and caught and relocated this Pike. For the last two seasons she had wiped out both broods of the resident Swans which nest there every year. 5 cygnets last year and 6 this. Moved to a water that has no nesting Swans. |

| | | Re: Got it! Wow! Nice fish!
Sad to hear about the swans, but that's Nature i suppose.
Know how you feel about missing fishing. I fish the local beaches, but i tore my rotator cuff end of Feb and had to miss the whole summer this year. Total bummer!
Looking forward more than ever to get back to it next year. |

I know what they say about interfering with nature, but as far as I'm concerned, putting up a bird box is interfering with nature, so what you did is commendable. |

| | | Re: Got it! Hi Fudgey
That is one good looking Pike. No offence but how do you know this one is responsible for predation. That looks like a good size of water in the photo?

| | | Re: Got it! A fine fish indeed Fudgey but I cannot agree with your relocation effort.
This pike has grown in what must be optimal habitat for it and to take it out and put it somewhere else may well be at the expense of another species, furred, feathered or finned.
What about the other species of fish in the receptor water? How are they going to cope with a top predator introduction? |

| | | Re: Got it! Great looking fish but have to agree with the others and say its not going to be the only pike in that water and nature is nature, the swans should learn to nest somewhere safer..
its called survival of the fittest or natural selection..
Have you thought you could introduce infection to the new pond doing this too.. |

| | | Re: Got it! nice one set yourself up for a lovely big fine, relocating fish without first applying for a section 30, then publishing the fact in nice bold print with pictures on the net.
the laws on section 30 consent are afterall there for a reason, transferral of disease from one watercourse to another wipes out whole indigenous populations. that is why it's illegal. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
