I'm not sure about the moving bit either, as it's obviously the 'big mamma' in that lake...and it has just as much right to be there as the swans. You didn't kill it unnecessarily and that's good enough for me.

Having said that, I hope you don't feel that this thread has turned into a 'pecking party' as this seems to be a nice friendly place where different opinions are accepted.

As for carp: last time I looked, they were a naturalised, but not native species, right?

Thats a seriously nice fish, I'd have loved to have caught it myself.

I think you are to be commended for caring so much about both your swans on the small loch and the magnificent Pike herself.
You can see why she'd cause problems in such a small body of water. If put into a larger body of water she'll cause no real problems, in a large lake she'll have several others her size or larger.I know for a fact that my local patch has at least four 20lb+ pike in it and nothing seems to suffer, nature finds its own balance.
