| | | Great tit Hi all,
Over the past two weeks i've had this great tit sticking it's head inside of my nest box, presumably checking it out for winter roosting (and hopfully spring nesting!) The only concern I have is that I haven't actually seen it go in, I personally think that the hole is too small for it it's about 2.9 mm in diameter, would a great tit be able to fit through that? I've already seen a blue tit fit through it the spring just gone and even then I thought the hole was too small for him, it can be deceiving what they can fit through.
Thanks, Han. |

Think you may have your mm and your cm muddled up!
The Great Tit will probably try to enlarge the hole if it can't fit in and if it is really determind to use your nest box. The Blue Tits that nest in my mums garden are visiting the box everyday but roosting elsewhere at the moment. One of them normally roosts in the box through the winter but no sign yet.
This link should give you your nest box hole sizes that you need. http://www.garden-birds.co.uk/inform...stdboxplan.htm
