| | | starling roost gretna hi all !!!!!
Just wondering if the starling roost has started up again at gretna green.. and if anyone knows when is the best time to visit this spectacular event...i have been trawling over the www and i believe early november is a good time but do any of you guys have any experience viewing this remarkable sight ???
thanks in advance for any tips about this question and if i do go soon i will be posting pics and video on this site for sure !

hiya
I live very close to Gretna and go and watch the roost 2-3 times a week during the autumn and winter.
It is, indeed, very active just now - I only just saw your message, so don't know if you have been yet.
Don't worry though, as if you haven't, there are still a few months to go before it breaks up.
Current numbers are estimated to be around half to three-quarters of a million, and last night, against a stunning sunset was the best I have seen so far.
The AOL picture above looks like one that was recently in the Daily Mail, as they are flying and roosting in a different location this year compared with the last two or three. |
