Ruddy Ducks

Apologies if this is ancient history, but I'm new....

What do people think about ruddy ducks? And the killing of them?

Hi.

I think They're great little birds. You've got to think about all the non native species in the country that are now classed as wild. And yet the little old Ruddy Duck gets killed. I know it is cross breeding with white headed ducks in spain, but surely thats spanish escaped ruddy ducks and not our ones migrating.

I saw quite large numbers of Ruddy duck at Clumber park during a recent visit.
And a few at Carsington to day. Not against the cull, but it would be nice to see them in the food chain if only as pet food.(not wasted)

This has been much discusssed before, but I think politics are too involved with this. I believe the threat posed to White-headed Ducks is much overstated.

Certainly where I find them now I never report sightings of them as I do with other species as I'm not going to advertise their presence to Defra.
