| | | Re: Sparrowhawk attack! Fudgey, i agree with yr previous comments. The hawks are only doing what is natural 2 them and i certainly dont get too annoyed when they take the young birds i have spent all spring feeding, nature is nature and if u say u love it u must embrace all aspects of it.
I just annoyed at the preachy answers i recieved from some contributers that made me feel like all i did was wrong, when i was only trying to help, ok so next time i'm better prepared, but its not exactly helping yr site the fact that first time posters get shot down so visciously... |

In fact leaving well alone for several hours can be the best treatment for a bird suffing shock.

Unfortunetly on this site a lot of threads turn into arguments and get a bit personal (whether meant as personal or not). I always try to stay out of it. I think it's also hard sometimes to get a sense of the tone of someones post, as it's just text on a computer screen there is no way you can tell if someone means a post to be serious/joking/offensive/non-offensive etc.
The problem is I guess wildlife is an emotive subject and you are always gonna get people debating at both extremes of opinion. Don't let it get to you! |

I only came on the site to try and do the right thing, but now feel so bad that i wish i hadn't bothered. I only hope that you are more friendly to others seeking advice | Quote: |

I've read this thread through several times and no where can I see you have been 'treated viciously' , in any manner that was 'unfriendly', nor have I seen you being 'shot down' ...
VF's comments were actually presented as a general comment rather than an 'attack' on you personally (a point of view not shared by many but none the less a point of view regarding the Law along with notes of caution with regard to the sort of advice that's offered in this situation). My own comments regarding leaving it for the cat were what I may have done but I was also very careful to say it's hard for any of us to judge what would have been best in that regard if we were not there or indeed, for any of us to judge from an abstract distance, the injuries that any animal might be suffering.
WAB is a friendly site with lots of experienced people in all areas of wildlife. However, people often have differing opinions on what one should do in various situations, which is not unusual for an internet forum! It would probably help you to stand back a bit and try not to take things so personally and you may find you'll enjoy the site a lot more as well as some healthy debates in the future! |

A couple of posters appeared to have been deeply offended recently over what I would consider to be no more than a lively exchange of views. Perhaps spending 30+years in an industrial environment has desensitised me!
