Woodcock
Saw my first Woodcock of the season yesterday. They winter in our woodland each year, numbers increasing annually, but I've not seen one this early before. As always it gave me a massive fright, taking off from only 2 yards away with a tremendous whirring of wings!

Yes Ashling ,the Woodcock will sit tight ,normally you have to be very close before it flies,they are normally found by taking a walk off the beaten track in winter in woods near me.Its the Pheasant that often makes me jump though, because of its call and size.
