New Forest Red Kite?

Interesting observation re the behaviour of the rooks. A female goshawk might cause such a reaction, and would be much more serious a threat to adult rooks than a red kite. Your description does sound more like a kite though. Kites are quite languid in their movements. Gos tend not to hang around.

We did see a couple of buzzards, it was just interesting that both my gf and I thought how the corvids seemed more 'wound-up' than we've ever seen them before - making some noises I've hardly ever heard rooks make before! I don't know about kites in the New Forest, but at 11.15 today, I saw my first red kite flying over Millbrook Road East in Southampton.

There was no mistaking its forked tail and the shape of its wings.

it was swooping over the roofs being mobbed by a group of crows.

Hi Marc It was at a place called Cadham Pond.3miles south off Fritham and 2miles north off the A31.sorry i could not be more precise but if you where planning to go thier i could email you a google map.Kevan
