First Redwings and Fieldfare 2009

Reasonable numbers of Redwing at Malham Tarn today (Monday 12th October), I heard the first ones on Saturday night/Sunday morning and there were a few around early doors Sunday. Today forty or fifty came through with a couple of Fieldfare and some Mistle Thrushes.

Re: First Redwings and Fieldfare 2009

Good spot Rob, not seen/heard any here yet, but must be close.
Doesnt seem such a good Haw year as last year though.
Always see loads in November above Kettlewell, the Hawthorns and woods rt hand side upstream going towards Starbotton. Pint in the Fox n hounds to savour too..................
Cheers
Ken

Re: First Redwings and Fieldfare 2009

Saw a few Redwing today in Sussex but haven't been able to get out much past few weeks so there's probably more around than I saw!

I saw my first fieldfares this morning - they did not hang around to be photographed.

Re: First Redwings and Fieldfare 2009

After the first sighting over the weekend we've had a steady movement (100's in total) of both Redwing and Fieldfare through this part of the Dales all day to day (Wed 14th Oct) so expect to see them elsewhere fairly shortly (also lots of blackbirds and mistle thrushes and starling with them too).

Re: First Redwings and Fieldfare 2009

In the last couple of days in the South Pennines thousands of redwings have been reported by various vis' mig' watchers. I spent the weekend at Spurn and there were lots of redwings about, but only a single fieldfare.

Regards, Chris

Re: First Redwings and Fieldfare 2009

Ah didn't see this thread, my first Fieldfare in Oldham today, a good spot for me as I've never seen one before. Hoping that I'll some Redwings next and possibly even Waxwings, I'm at Oldham College this year where some arrived last year so fingers crossed some do the same.

Smile Re: First Redwings and Fieldfare 2009

Having heard Redwings flying over the last couple of nights it was great to see a group of around 70 flying over Huntingdon Town center today. Better still a further 100 or so were not far behind. I'm sure people passing by wondered what I was doing as I stood still, staring into what appeared to be an empty sky, with a smile on my face............

Re: First Redwings and Fieldfare 2009

Lots of Redwing here on the outskirts of Sheffield today. Yippee they are back . Seeps from all the hawthorn bushes and surrounding trees, and a flock of c90 with a few Fieldfare mixed in. And as dusk fell there was a fieldfare chuckling, a few redwings seeps, a mistle thrush rattling and blackbird clucking all very close by, lovely to hear them all. The sound of winter ....
