Cock Fighting

Coming back from the woods on a minibus we encountered these two male pheasants having a right old ding dong. They were oblivious to the minibus and it was only when I got off the bus to try and get a better photo that they decided to move.

I know they have different plumage. Is one of them melanistic or partially melanistic? If that's possible.

sorry, don't know the answer but will be watching with interest for someone that does

typical they stopped when you got out to take the photo though, I can associate with that!

The righthand bird is a japanese green cross. They look very handsome, but tend to wander from shoots, so aren't released very often. They fly exceedingly well. I've never had much to do with them, but I seem to recall hearing they can be more aggressive than other breeds, making them more diffiult to rear.

Beautiful birds though.
