| | | Encouraging Water Rails into the open Anyone got any tips on how to get them out of thick reed beds. At my Kingfisher hide I hear one really close every time I am up now, but only had one quick glance so far. I have been told by a reliable source that it's a good idea to bury small oily fish just under the surface of the silt as they have a great sense of smell. Any other suggestions folks? |

At RSPB Conwy last year some enterprising soul enticed one out of cover by scattering seed in a nearby puddle: www.northwalesbirding.co.uk :: View topic - Conwy RSPB.... Water Rail challenge !

| | | Re: Encouraging Water Rails into the open Very helpful and interesting. I didn't even realise seeds were a part of their diet. Do you happen to know what type of seed they are feeding on? Thanks |

| | | Re: Encouraging Water Rails into the open Oops, just noticed you said split seed, I take it that's an individual type. Can I buy that online as I live in a remote area. |

Cheers
