| | | new bird feeders well we've moved into the new house a month now and the new feeders have been out 2 weeks.
on day 3 we had some visitors, 2 magpies sat and stared at the feeders from 2 foot away on the fence, but didn't bother hopping over for anything to munch.
there's been a wren , a robbin, a whole flock of starlings and some finches about but none of em have stopped off for a bite to eat.
then finally at 8:15 am this morning some thing was munching on the peanuts in one of the feeders
A PIGGIN SQUIRREL AAAAAAAAGH !!!!
when are the little uns going to realise it's there and start visiting |

| | | Re: new bird feeders Tee hee My friend has the same trouble in his garden and has tried and tried to squirrel proof the feeders with no success. He has also found that the pigeons have learned to hang upside down like huge ugly ungainly blue tits to get at the seed.

| | | Re: new bird feeders One of my collared doves has found that by perching on the arm of the pole feeder and leaning forward it can just about reach the peanuts on the arm above!

| | | Re: new bird feeders If pigeons can be that clever why do they walk or run instead of flying when they get spooked. I saw one today waiting at a crossing and it looked at tho it was waiting for the green man as it kept looking up at the lights I thought why on earth doesnt it fly over - I would if I could!

| | | Re: new bird feeders They always run as fast as thei little legs will go but no take-off. I will try jumping up and down and yelling as see if that works

| | | Re: new bird feeders I think cages around feeders are the only way to stop squirrels. They work well in our garden, but any unprotected feeder is fair game for the little dears.
This includes metal feeders that are practically battlefield grade - the critters can work their way into almost anything. |
