| | | 'Dog fights' Here are snaps of two very different but both very long range 'dog fights' - I have used inverted commas to prove my appreciation of the feelings of others.
The first set I saw from my garden. I was first alerted by the noise over head. By the time I had worked out what was going on, the fracas was fast receding into the distance. A pair of crows was seeing off a kestrel

Objective achieved....
The second took place whilst we having a coffee and cake break on the River Great Ouse. Despite my frantic waving, hunter and prey refused to come any closer. I assume that both came from Duxford which is not too far away. No prizes for guessing the name of the hunter; but what about the prey?

| | | Re: 'Dog fights' Looks like a Hispano Aviación Ha 1112 'Buchon' which was the 'German' fighter borrowed from Spain for the Film 'Battle Of Britain' portraying 'Emils' and 'Gustavs' using the same Rolls-Royce Merlin engines which had powered Spitfires, which accounts for ridiculous mouth air intake under the prop. Of course, 'Gustavs' were never in the Battle of Britain being first flown in 1942. Airframe was basically a Messerschmidt Me 109 G-2 Gustav. These aircraft were built until 1958 although some were fitted with Hispano-Suiza engines and labeled as 'Tripala'.
The Spit is I think a mark IXC (type361) but I could be mistaken as Supermarine had more modification numbers than a horse has hairs.
The Crows and Kessie can fly better tho'! |
