scopes - help!

we've decided we definately need a scope to get the most out of all this, and would appreciate your input and advice.
we feel we can spend up to maybe £500 for the whole set-up - scope, tripod, eye piece, case, bench clamp, etc. it would also need to be fairly light-weight.

best place to post this would be in the equipment section of the forum they're really good over there. as a personal preference I use the RSPB's packages there pretty good and have some really good offers on with scopes, tripods and sometime a compact attachment and camera. good luck

thanks for your input, jaykay. i just had a look at all the forums and the only one i can see that would perhaps be helpful is 'photography'. we don't want a scope for taking photos necessarily, it's so we can see the birds in more detail, and further away, and identify them, so maybe we're looking for something different to what a photographer would.
am i looking in the right place?
