Ring-necked Duck

This has been reported by Birdguides as an eclipse drake at Westport Lake for the last few weeks. I tried a couple of times to find it and was successful at last yesterday with the help of members of a local U3A bird club

. It was just about in range to get these reasonable pics which I think tend to show it has gained most of its plumage back making it more recognisable.

Couldn't find any in WAB main Gallery but don't know if these are good enough to include there.

Good photo, though the bird isn't in full plumage yet. I think they are really smart birds. A special bird for me as I found 3 on my 40th birthday some years back on Scilly.

Hey Tich

I live just up the road from Westport. it's a funny old place. So busy between the birders, anglers, dog walkers etc. but so often gives us interesting birds.

Took me a few attempts to find the RND as well. A few weeks ago it was very difficult to pick out from all the Tufted on the lake. I have to say a big well done to the first person who identified it. No way would I have spotted it as anything different at the time.
