Took a stoll today along the edge of a field whilst heading to a patch where Agarics are known to grow... whilst on my journey of approx 600 meters i was astonished with the Sparrowhawks i heard. They where so noisy and everywhere. At one point i even spotted one (after hearing it) landing in an Oak tree... i think it had young there because i could here the noise of young brds. The hawks where heard around 300 meters apart.
On top of this whilst slightly into the woods a Honey Buzzard was heard and thankfully because the woods consisted of a lot Oak i caught a glimpse of it. This not the same honey buzzard i mentioned previously, these woods are some 18 miles apart.
It gets better i heard whilst trying to spot the Hawk which was in the tree a raven... but this was in flight yet still made a bizzare noise. The is the 3rd raven i have heard this year and the second i have got a glimpse of.... i really want to get a better look at one of these birds... i may have done already. I say this because when not in flight and when not being vocal i probably would not be able to tell the difference between a raven and a crow.
Some of the crows i see round my way (normaly in cemeteries and park-like woodland (i.e. trees and lots of open grassland) are huge not a great deal smaller then herring gulls (herrings legs not included)... but i never get to view them in flight....
