fishing line danger

During a recent visit to Scarbourgh. I managed to get out a little with the camera. During this time trying to photo sea birds I found a badly decayed gannet wrapped in fishing line. And then started to notice a lot of the gulls and even small waders with missing bits of toes and even full feet. Some with fishing line still visable. I have to say I was really suprised just to see how many. Pretty sure all the fisher men on WAB clear up. Lets hope all fisher men
get into the habit of tidying up.

I knew of the dangers of fishing line, but have to be honest never gave it a great deal of thought. It was the amount of birds that I tried to photograph in a short amount of time, that seemed to have suffered from discarded line and indeed those that were suffering. Take a look at the feet on these poor Turnstones one has lost toes, the other is in the process of losing toes or even its leg.
