I was surprised to see this today on our village pond , which is a long way from the sea. I think it is a shag, rather than a comorant, but would be grateful for confirmation or otherwise.  |

looks like just a cormarant i think. shags have much more slender bills and darker faces |

It's a cormorant. They getting more and more common inland now.
Shags are fairly rare inland, much more at home on rocky coasts. |
