| | | Black Hooded Blue Tit? He's a good one!
I managed today to get some images of a very rare bird, it's supposedly a blue tit, what do you think?
Nice one eh?

| | | Re: Black Hooded Blue Tit? Just to confirm, this is genuine! I've not made the bird up!
It was first seen 3 years ago, then vanished, it came back to Whisby last week. It took me three days to get it. |

| | | Re: Black Hooded Blue Tit? These are quite a common occurance according to the link below.
There have also been reports of such birds in Norway, Denmark and Holland as far back as 2002. http://www.bto.org/news/news2005/jul...difference.htm

I suppose the are some freaks in nature aren't there, and this is definatly one of them, it looks a really nice bird actually it's maybe a throwback to how blue tits used to look like? in the same way some people have tails etc |

Thanks for posting this Graham, great images, could you send some to Mark please as I know he will be really interested in this. |

It's head is blue, the expected white of the Blue Tit is black, plus the wing colours are nearer Blue Tit than Great Tit.
I'm still not at all sure they're right though! |

Thanks for posting this Graham, great images, could you send some to Mark please as I know he will be really interested in this. | No problem Steve, I'll send him a few more as well that show the size better, it's more the size of a Blue Tit. I agree that the shape looks more Great Tit than Blue. |

A trip to Whisby on Monday may be in order |

A trip to Whisby on Monday may be in order | If you do go, it's obviously seen at the feeding station. We had to wait about an hour today before we saw it. Yesterday we waited for two half hour sessions and just missed it both times!
Good luck! |

The only info I can find is that one link to Surrey, and that one looks all black.
I've contacted the BTO to see what they say. |
