Unusual Kestrel fare

This afternoon at the London Wetland Centre we watched a female Kestrel on a tall post devouring one of the site's abundant Marsh Frogs (adored by the Herons). First time I've seen a Kestrel with a frog, though I know they have quite catholic tastes. Possibly the same female was seen a few weeks back with a Common Lizard in her talons. She must have a prediliction for herptile gastronomy!

A lot of big words in this post Neil!

I've seen Kestrels eating worms and insects from ploughed fields and manure heaps quite often, so perhaps frogs and lizards are now on the menu.

BTW what are catholic tastes? Heretics?

The handbook does mention frogs as a common food source, Kestrels seem to like Carrion which is not in the handbook.
