Saw this one on a nearby lake yesterday. Reckoned I was reasonably good on birds, but I don't know this one. Is it a mongrel?  |

It's a mallard type... with at least some of it's genes coming from a farmyard! |

Yep its the good old Manky, Mucky whatever the newest term is for them but Mallard it indeed is. But they do make the heart skip sometimes, just come back from Rudyard Lake and there was one on there making a very good impression of a female Mandarin Duck (from a distance).

Can confirm its a Mallard looks to me like a female

is it not just a mallard with eclipse plumage? i only realised they did this this year somehow, nearly got fooled at my local NR by some summer-mallards in the distance! |
