An osprey was seen on the river Frome just west of Wareham (Dorset) on friday. I didn't see it myself but the report came from a reliable witness.
Is this early for them to be heading south?

Andy | No - many of the ospreys are already well on their way south for winter.
The females are usually first to leave once the juveniles leave the nest, leaving the males behind to look after them, before they too begin their journey south. Most will have left by the end of September.

We've had a few passing through Herts in the past few weeks, there's one at Tringford reservoir (Tring) today. |

One over Tophill Low, near Beverley this aft' too. I was nearby at Beverley races and wish I'd gazed skywards a bit more.

I heard there was an Osprey at Weir Wood in Sussex a couple of weeks back, no idea if it is still there ... probably moved on by now ..?
