ok, so i was out camping last night with a couple of friends, it was in a field with short grass, tall tree hedgerow surrounding and a small nature reserve the other side. next to that is organic wheat field and there are tree planting projects, although i guess the trees are about 10 yrs at most
anyway its the middle of the night, i'd already heard a barn owl which i was ecstatic about and in previous nights i'd heard little owls in that area, thr is so many little owls in bedfordshire!!!
but i heard a call which sounded sort of like a tawny owl but it was like "kee-wickoo" ive heArd dueting tawnies before but im certain this was one owl, there was no pause at all and the bird moved from one tree to another.
is this just a very close pair, a different species because there isnt true woodland just a large hedgerow. or my hunch is a juvenile tawny owl as i've heard they make calls of male and female no matter what sex.
any thoughts??
