| | | Ive never known our garden so quiet. Apart from the regular wood pigeons, doves and finches ive never known our garden to be so quiet. The masses of starling visitors we used to get have dissapeared, in the past we had a lot of blackbirds in the garden both male, female and quite a few youngsters but they seem to have dissapeared as well.
Even the magpies, crows and a sparrowhawk thats appeared this year havn`t shown up for a fair while now. I understand that youngsters will fledge and move away to set up their own territories, its just ive not seen many adults either.
The wood pigeons, collared doves and finches seem to be loving it though, we get a lot of goldfinches and greenfinches and they are still about in numbers on the feeders, the sparrows seem to have dissapeared as well as they were new to our garden this year during the breeding season.
Its just strange to have the garden so quiet, i guess they will be back squabbling and fighting over territory in no time once the temperatures start to drop, you miss the daily entertainment of them trying to outwit it each other when its quiet lol |

| | | Re: Ive never known our garden so quiet. I know the feeling! Our garden is pretty much deserted. It's that quiet time of year - plenty of natural food about, loads of insects, fruits ripening, grain from harvested crops (though not as much as in the past!). They will be back come the autumn! |

We normally have day long entertainment but this last few weeks its been evenings only and then not many visitors or variety.Today though ,at least yhe last few hours since it rained , we have had a lot of tits, finches and even the dunnocks are back. At least if the weather is turning we get our entertainment back. |

| | | Re: Ive never known our garden so quiet. Same here - the only visitor I get regularly is my nervous woodpigeon who is still happily eating his way through the sunflower seeds. It seems so long ago that the garden was filled with starlings, blue tits, great tits, dunnocks and blackbirds.
I look forward to seeing them back soon, it's too quiet without them here! |

| | Re: Ive never known our garden so quiet. Our garden has been quiet over the last few weeks apart from monday morning before i went to work. There were about 8 tits, both blue and great alternating between the fat ball and nut feeders. The blackbirds have vanished and a couple of greenfinches that were regulars have not been for a while. Still getting a few dunnocks aswell as collared doves. Great website btw |

| | | Re: Ive never known our garden so quiet. Same here! its been quiet for a few weeks now with what little feeding there has been taking place in the early morning and early evening. This is my first year of feeding, but as well as the abundance of natural food I've wondered if its simply down to the hot weather. It was much cooler today and some tits returned after a few weeks absence. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
