identification please

hello everyone, i found this bird tagged when i was out walking, i have no idea what it is, maybe a carrion crow or rook, any help muchly appreciated.

Yes it's a racing pigeon - the green ring tag should have a number on it - if you can retrieve it you can report it here:

Hi Andy. It does indeed look rather like a dead racing pigeon, in which case there may be a ring on its leg. If you wanted to, you could take the details from the ring (if there is one) and send to the Royal Pigeon Racing Association, the Reddings, near Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, GL51 6RN, or you can log the details at Royal Pigeon Racing Association > Reporting a Stray Pigeon

I thought pigeon but the beak looks black to me, would that be right?

thankyou all, the tags were green withno moarkings on and a red or pink collar with numbers and a date on it. i retrieved this one as the birds leg had been gnawed at and so the collar came off easily , poor thing, i'll look at the pidgeon racing pages now but thanks again to all who posted

Jonners - I think that's the link for owners to report a stray pigeon! (ps you can see the ring on the photo)

The link I posted previously will take you to the page to report a found pigeon/ring.

The link I left was to the start of a Wizard for reporting stray pigeons, dead or alive, and would lead to the form you linked to if you clicked on "dead"!
