| | | Re: Favourite bird song ? Good question
Mine has got to be the wailing call of Red Throated Diver - wild and really enchanting. Reminds me of birding on a Scottish beach on a warm summer evening - completely calm sea, misty, sun just about to set and totally silent apart from the Divers - brilliant! |

| | | Re: Favourite bird song ? Individually it's our resident blackbird which does an excellent rendition of the first line of 'I'm a Barbie girl'
But seriously, it's the call of the Red Kite, even though I see, and hear, them every day I never get bored to unique call that alerts me that one is overhead.

| | | Re: Favourite bird song ? One of the first bird songs I learnt was the Willow Warbler, and that gentle waterfall of music is still as beatiful and spring-like as ever. The call of the Lapwing as it displays takes me back to my childhood when I used to hear it much more often than I do now, and the sound of hundreds of Wigeon flying overhead on the Ouse Washes at the end of a Winter's day still takes some beating. I know that's three rather than one, but I couldn't nail down one of them. |

| | | Re: Favourite bird song ? Very difficult to narrow down to one species Mick as it's like asking someone their favorite 'pop' song of all time - Often it depends on my mood but generally it's bird calls that encapsulate a deep sense of 'the call of the wild' - therefore:
1. The sound of a flock of migrating winter Pink-footed Geese
2. The lonely and plaintive mewing of Common Buzzard
3. Ural Owl (anyone yet to hear low ominous hooting of a Ural Owl is still in for a treat!)
(I picked more than one - sorry I cheated ) |

| | | Re: Favourite bird song ? Wren for me, as I hear them every time I go for a walk, very varied and extremely loud for such a little brid.

| | | Re: Favourite bird song ? For me it's got to be the Sky Lark. In early summer there's no better pastime than to sit in a meadow full of wild flowers watching them climb in the sky and listen to that beautiful song. They always seem to me to be such happy little things, they even carry on singing when they are being chased by a bird of prey. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
