| | | kingfishers hi im new to to all this but today i was walking along the river colne for about 2miles during my walk i saw 3 king fishers over the2 miles is this likely to be the same bird or different birds? cheers steve |

| | | Re: kingfishers When you walk along a river or canal, you tend to see Kingfishers flying away from you and settling somewhere further along out of sight, if this happens again further along it is likely to be the same bird, i would think a 2 mile stretch is not a very big territory for these birds, although it could also be a pair or family in the same area, especially at this time of year

Frankly, it's impossible to say whether what you saw was the same single bird three times or three different ones, but at the moment the second broods of many nesting pairs will be fledging and there will be more Kingfishers about than at any other time of year as the young birds disperse.
Sadly, approximately 75% of the young will not survive until next Spring so make the most of them.
