| | | Where have all the sparrows gone. I have a bird feeder in my garden with seeds, nuts and fat balls. There was always a variety of birds feeding on it, but for the last three weeks I have not seen any sparrows. Does anyone know why? |

| | | Re: Where have all the sparrows gone. It's always a quiet time of year for birds - our garden is deserted! Breeding has pretty much finished (apart from a few odd late second or third broods of some species) and juveniles have dispersed. There is plenty of natural food around at this time of year, insects are plentiful (especially this year) and fruits are starting to appear. They should come back in a few weeks or so in the autumn. |

| | | Re: Where have all the sparrows gone. Always have lots of birds on the feeders at my house except-when a sparrow hawk has dropped in. A sparrow hawk has visited the garden twice recently and it tends to go quiet on the bird front for a while afterwards. But they do return. |

| | | Re: Where have all the sparrows gone. Something I have noticed over the past few months is that sparrows in my garden only seem to appear when other birds particularly starlings are around. Almost as if they feel safer in a crowd! |

| | | Re: Where have all the sparrows gone. Dozens here too, including lots of youngsters. They are nesting (as usual) in next door's ivy. I put out the remains of a cold tea cake this morning and they descended on it as if it was going out of fashion! Cleared it in minutes. |

| | | Re: Where have all the sparrows gone. There is masses of seed on wild plants at present and depending how far you are away from arable land, harvest is in full swing and they are picking up split grain. We loaded the last of last year's wheat earlier this week and some got spilt I counted over 50 house sparrows on the lane scavenging for it. Even if you are not near farmland you may be near a road on the way to a grain merchant/store/mill etc! |

| | | Re: Where have all the sparrows gone. There hasn't been a Sparow in my garden for years until this year, I now have about forty raiding the feeders every day like a plague of Locusts and combined with those greedy gits, the Wood Pigeons, it's costing me a fortune
