| | | Re: Egg collectors steal stone curlew eggs That's very sad. It's such a shame that there are still selfish and irresponsible people who continue with this illegal activity. |

| | | Re: Egg collectors steal stone curlew eggs No excuse for this day & age, I admit that I did collect eggs over 25 years ago when I was a kid. I wasn't a clutch collecter & I wouldn't take eggs from a species that only laid one egg fulmar for example. This didn't make it right and although illegal I didn't see the error of my ways back then. What stopped me was finding a Peregrine nest with 4 eggs & me & a friend took 1 each. I couldn't sleep that night & I took the eggs back ( 8 mile cycle ride ) to the nest the next day. Unbelievably the 4 eggs hatched & this was the moment I thought about the comparison of having an egg in a drawer or it being a beautiful bird. So from that day I never took another egg & destroyed my collection. Why grown men go to such lengths is beyond me, custodial scentence is the best deterent I say. |

NO EVIDENCE... | the camera wasnt there to catch eggers - the intention was to record the birds at the nest/ pulli hatching etc

the only real deterent to eggers is an onsite warden , but thats just not realistic outside of the nature reserve setting.
The rspb stone curlew project have also done some interesting work with marking eggs with magic water - but that only helps prosecute, it is first necessary to apehend the collector.

They should coat them in a poison so if the egg come in contact with the lips the egger dies a horrid death..
