| | | female reed bunting A couple of pics of what I believe to be a female reed bunting. I have seen male reed buntings on the same reed bed early in the summer. Hopefully I have got the ID right this time after my last couple of attempts of bird ID
Cheers

Cheers,
Adam | The youngsters (according to the RSPB Handbook of British Birds (p291)) has a yellower plumage than the female and looking at these pics I wonder if I can see a yellow patch around the breast area. Would be nice if it was a youngster and to know that a successful breading season was had.

| | | Re: female reed bunting Yes I do, found a pic online of a juv and the yellow patch shows on that as well but not sure about the source to be 100% but I am leaning more towards juv.
Cheers

| | | Re: female reed bunting Emailed the picture to someone with far more experience than me and had it confirmed as a juv. Pleased to see that a bird that I believe is on the red list is breeding close to where I live and on a place I visit regularly. Went back today but didn't see it.
