| | | Mull and Loch Morlich Pt 1 Well, where do i start? At the beginning i hear you say arrived on Mull a day late, put up the tent in the rain, ten minutes later, the sun was shining that's Scotland for you, went down to the beach about eleven for a sea watch and spotted a very nice Wheatear
beach was quiet but for one guy and his wife and kid, looking at something that he thought was a seal but turned out to be an otter
watched it for about an hour, and all the previous days troubles melted away and the holiday began.
Also spotted my first Arctic Tern and Gannet diving
and it wasn't even lunchtime
after lunch i went for a walk through the woods to try to find some Redstarts but failed but i managed to add two more first timers
and on a later beach walk, saw Redpoll, Cormorant and my fourth new bird ,Rock Pipit
well, tiredness forbids me from carrying on, so i will continue this tomorrow
Frank

| | | Re: Mull and Loch Morlich Pt 1 Sorry to give you bad news... but the Rock pipit is a meadow pipit!...
Rock pipits have dark legs..and a dirtier, smudgier plumage.
The good news... some of the pipits that you saw on the beach WILL have been rock pipits! |

| | | Re: Mull and Loch Morlich Pt 1 You are making me so jealous. We have a holiday home up on the island but due to work commitments I haven't been able to get up recently. It is my favourite place in the world to go and stay as we have resident Golden Eagles as well as the usual vast array of wildlife that the island offers.
If you want to keep abreast of recent sightings then check out this excellent site: Latest reports page
You are really lucky to have seen an Otter as they are incredibly elusive.
I look forward to your next instalment.

Jim | Maybe it's a two centre holiday, although I don't know Mull having never visited, so couldn't say if there's a Loch Morlich there.
I wouldn't think it's like Lochan Dubh though, of which there seem to be dozens all over the Highlands. |
