Interesting Bird Facts

A few of us will know an interesting fact that many others won't, lets see if we can surprise each other. I'm not drunk just bored waiting at a train station for a pick up. My 1st one is a Cuckoo lays between 12 & 24 eggs a season, oh and the pied wagtail is the smallest bird in the UK............. That walks :-)

Noctule bats may travel up to 20km a night to a suitable foraging site and the leislers bat has been recorded at speeds of up to 40km an hour! Fascinating fabulous wee beasties!

Linnaeus gave the name coelebs to the Chaffinch which means unmarried as in Sweden most females fly south in the winter leaving the males behind...Bob

Kestrels when hunting don't always see the mammal 1st. They can see a mouses urine trail in ultra violet light so they follow this trail to pin point the rodent.

Here is another one for the pot. Swifts are not Swallows (Hirundines) but belong to the family Apodidae (no legs) and their closest relatives are the tropical humming birds...Bob
