| | Juvenile moorhen in garden I've just joined because have been trying to identify a bird that has visited our garden today and is now sitting in one of our trees. My initial thoughts were that it looked like a moorhen but the wrong colour and no red. It's dark brown with white flashes cutting across its body, lengthwise, long legs and big feet. After a bit of searching, I am almost covinced it is a juvenile moorhen. We live about half a mile from the river mersey in a manchester suburb. Do you think my identification is right...and if so, will it be OK, alone and away from the water (apart from the rain!!)? |

| | | Re: Juvenile moorhen in garden Hi Sally and a warm welcome to WAB. Have you tried looking in the WAB bird Gallery to help with ID. It sounds like a Moorhen to me but a photograph would have helped

| | | Re: Juvenile moorhen in garden Well thinking about it, it obviously can fly bacause it's sitting high in the tree and it was walking around well today. | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
