Wandering around in the garden...much bigger than I thought a woodpecker would be! As soon as it laid eyes on me it was off pretty sharpish but I have never seen one before so it made my day! |

Where abouts are you?
We have a pair or two that live in the woods on our property near between Selby and Askern. Beautiful birds 
They do make mince meat of the nuts on the bird tables though!  |

I'm over in East Yorkshire out toward Beverley. The one in our garden seemed to be pecking at the ground away from the bird feeders but I think there might be an ants nest in that general area and it might have been partial to a few of those. |

And yes they are partial to ants, I think the green in particular. |

And yes they are partial to ants, I think the green in particular. | Shouldn't be too difficult to find one as the're pretty widespread unless you're in the Highlands. Common even in the central London parks these days. They are wonderful birds to see + hear. |

They are a beautiful bird...Bob

Some down by the river behind my garden, very noisy birds and they knock holes in my beehives but i still love to see them and for that matter hear them.
