| | Re: Help Me What Is This Baby Bird! For those of you that are interested I though I would give an update on the green finch's progress. Just for ease he has been given the name junior, as that will go for male of female. It just make talking about him/her easier.
At the momment Junior is being fed every 2 hours night and day, which I must say is exhusting and at 17 has deffinatly put me of having children. But he is eating soaked meal worms at the minuet, and he loves them. He has learnt how to balence on the side of a bowl and has started geting cocky and trying to clen himslef whilst sat on the side of the bowl but does occassionally loose balence. He has started to fly a little but due to his stumped wing, he seems to always fly in a diagonal line. He has lost all his baby fluff. And is use to feeding from the tweasers and now expects to be feed and starts opening his mouth whenever I walk in the room.
I have uploaded some photo's and already he has grown up so much in the last 3 days. |

| | | Re: Help Me What Is This Baby Bird! Well done so far emilou22, but you do need to feed more than just the mealworms ... there's not near enough nutrition in just those to allow Junior to develop properly.
Please follow my earlier post and use the feed mixture I suggested.
There's no need for you to continue feeding Junior through the night, if you are providing the correct diet ... parent finches will not feed their young after dusk ... so get try to get some proper rest overnight, as you'll need to begin feeding early, around 5.30 to 6.00 am, and by the look of him, Junior may need handfeeding for another week to 10 days or so, before he starts to feed fully by himself.
To get get him into the way of doing that, just leave a little food with him towards the end of each feed, so that he can peck at it if he wants.
In his own time, he'll decide that he no longer needs your help to get the food inside him, just to provide it.
Good luck. |

| | | Re: Help Me What Is This Baby Bird! I have been given a large bird cage, this will give him more room to practice his flying and landing on perches. I have also been given baby bird mash, wish has all the right amount of protein and thing every baby bird need to grow up fit and healthy. |
