Re: Feed the Birds Day Poisons

Pat, don't you think it's possible the sheer quantities may well have something to do with it too!! I have know dogs to eat chocolate, albeit very small quantites.

Who in their right mind you give such huge amounts to an animal anyway??

I aggree with you to a certain extent but Theobromine can gradually destroy the immune system and giving small amounts you probably wouldn't notice much except that it makes the dog hyperactive and can shorten the dog's life ,a vet explained this to me when a dog I was looking after kept being sick, He said " I hope your dog hasn't eaten chocolate or grapes because if she has there's not much I can do for her" he then explained to me what harm they can do. Luckily she only had a bacterial infection. Unfortunately the 2 dogs that died stole the chocolate and grapes and the owners thought it would just make them sick, she didn't know what harm they could do. So better to be safe than sorry. Keep the choccy and grapes or raisins out of reach. Pat

Thumbs up Re: Feed the Birds Day

Something else the birds seem to love is spaghetti, I buy the organic wholemeal sort, cook it and hang the strands on the branches of the tree, the foxes like it too but I cook theirs with a stock cube to give it a bit of flavour. Do you think I'm going OTT.

Re: Feed the Birds Day

Don't understand why currants are all right if raisins and grapes aren't. Most raisins are seedless these days, aren't they? What about sultanas?

I think you'll find that most raisins do have seeds but currants don't, I'm not sure about sultanas, when I've got a bit of time I'll look into all this more extensively and let you know

Well, maybe you can buy raisins with seeds in, but I'm lazy and always buy the seedless ones (but I can remember deseeding them for my mum, for the Christmas cake and pudding (with a silver knife, of course!) but it was a tedious, sticky job!).

The seeds probably have tiny amounts of cyanide in them.

I see what you mean, it really makes you think about what you're eating doesn't it, or perhaps it's better not to.

Re: Feed the Birds Day

Well, I've thrown out raisons and currants, and never had any dead animals to show for it.
