sparrowhawks and flat batteries!!

So...I'm turning on the kettle to get my caffeine fix....I look out into the garden and there's a Sparrowhak sitting on my birdeeder of all places....I quietly sneak away to get my camera...I get back and he's still there...Brilliant!!!.....I turn on the camera to get a really amazing shot....and the ***ing battery's flat!!!!!....I'm sure the bird laughed as he flew off!!!!

you have all my sympathy.
you just have to hope the pic comes along again.

i got a picture of some mud on saturday.
it started off as 2 chaffinches, but as i pressed the shutter button they flew off then as i looked back from the display screen on the camera to see what the shot looked like they had turned into a magpie sat in the same spot, the camera had managed to catch the exact moment that there was absolutely nothin in view

on the other thread you mention bullfinches.
a few weeks back i was out at a reserve when i walked round a corner to see a bullfinch on a feeder, whipped the camera out fired off a shot, the bird flew off brilliant i thought my first pic of a bull finch.
looked down to find a very blurred reddish blob, then noticed the camera was still set to manual focus,
