| | Re: Fed up with cats Thanks jim, I will just sit back for a while on this particular subject, it is to easy to let our feeling,s effect our judgment some times, i have a habit of coming to the defense of some thing or some one if i think that my idea is right when it very often is not!!!, being on a forum is good for us in more ways than we might think when retired or some times locked in due to weather or even health problems as it enables contact and even pc practice etc at my age computers have not been part of my life too long, but of coarse with out them we could not have this type of contact with people so far and wide, and it is so quick, British mail could not keep up with this sort of speed, aland, |

I pointed out the fact that other things contribute more to wildlife declines than domestic cats simply in an attempt to form a rational argument and to gain a more comprehensive picture of the issues surrounding wildlife declines rather than just considering the effects that domestic cats have. Do you not think it's better to consider things from all angles in a discussion such as this? I believed it to be relevant to the thread, even if no-one else did.
As I said, I don't own a cat and never want to and neither defend nor condemn them, so why would I be trying to 'change the subject/re-direct attention' or however you are defining your 'herring of a certain colour'.
(Oh and if your post wasn't directed at mine then I'm sorry - it's just that I was the first to mention it! ) |

| | | Re: Fed up with cats Invariably post concerning cats and wildlife always end up in tears and people falling out. Cats do what they do and people keep them as pets.
There is little point is discussing this further as it has already been done to death on these forums with the same results. Lets move on people....

| | | Re: Fed up with cats Cats are regarded by law as property. Which means anyone who harms a cat can be charged with criminal damage under the 1971 act, so choose your deterrents carefully. This also means that the owner is 100% responsible for the actions of their "property". So if a cat kills, the blood is definitely on the owners hands. So the original question should have been, why do "I" do this, not, why do "THEY" do this.

| | | Re: Fed up with cats There are actually fences designed to keep cats in, that is what gets used in the US where the legislation has been introduced. They generally have a step/angle in at the top. However it is much harder to keep a cat out because it means you can't put your fence on the boundary line as the angle will overhang beyond the boundary, so you would end up losing garden space. Whereas for keeping them in, the fence can be put on the boundary. |
