There are a lot of knowledgeable people over there, and there is a sub forum on video...Bob

| | | Re: Family of Jay's We had a family of Jays visit our garden last year after putting monkey nuts out for them. We were visited by the parents who after two or three weeks brought their three youngsters into the garden. Imagine our delight when once again this year we had Jay parents visit and after a few weeks they brought four youngsters. They really are handsome birds and a great joy to watch. Last year they visited from June to end July. This year they started to visit in late April. Will be sad to see them go off again this year but hope we are lucky enough to have them visit next year. We only have a small garden on an estate - not the sort of garden you would expect jays to visit. |

| | | Re: Family of Jay's I don't know why Jays are in some areas and not others, but they are also, for large and well marked and coloured birds, quite inconspicuous.
I grew up in Co. Durham which, even now, is still a very rural and well wooded county, but I never saw a Jay. Most of my time now is spent in east London. So far this year I think I may have seen only one or two Jays but, unless something disastrous happen, I know I will see lots in September and October when they are collecting acorns. |

| | | Re: Family of Jay's We regularly get one or two adult jays feeding in the garden, but a couple of weeks ago we saw that two juveniles had arrived. Since then numbers have built up until last week there were six altogether! (Though they were too spread out to photograph more than four).
Clearly they appreciate the food I scatter on the ground - a mixture of porridge oats, chopped peanuts, sunflower hearts and mixed seed. I love to watch them "bouncing" around boldly in the garden - they are not at all shy, or put off by crows, magpies, starlings etc. |
