| | | Blackbird nest SOS Hi
I am new to this site as an incident occured today which has very much worried me. We have a blackbird nest in a big Pyracanthus bush in our garden, we have regularly seen the male going in and out. The bush is very heavy and has previously fallen over and then we had to tie rope around to support it. We have suspiscions that our neighbour cut the rope last week as the top of the bush was growing over slightly into his garden. As a result the bush has slowly started to lean back over towards the ground. Tonight what appears to be the female (we have not seen her before) flew into our conservatory glass and died. We are confused as to how this happened as the bush is positioned at a right angle to the conservatory.
Anyway, the male was hopping about on the grass then went up into a tree for a few minutes before flying away. I have kept an eye out but have not yet seen him return. Due to the position of the nest we are unable to see whether there is anything in the nest and whether it is eggs or chicks. We are worried that whatever is in there will be abandoned now and what we should do about this?

| | | Re: Blackbird nest SOS Hello Hayley and welcome to WAB, but I'm sorry it's under such sad circumstances . If the female has died, then the chances are that so will whatever is in the nest. If there are youngsters and you are in time then maybe if you got them to a wildlife rescue centre they might be able to help, but if it's eggs, then I guess the outlook is pretty grim. There was a similar post a while back: blackbirds although that time it was a cat that killed the mum. It's one of those harsh reality things that happens, but is made all the more harsh when it's in our garden, and to one of "our" birds. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
