Feather for I.D.

I know the colours aren't spectacular on this feather. It was the size of it that caught my attention.



It is about 42 cms long.

Any ideas of which bird this came from?

Maybe Magpie.

I think it is too big for a magpie and it doesn't have the blue/green/black sheen to it. This is brown going darker to almost black.

42cms is pretty big. It's a primary feather for sure - not right colour wise but Great Black Backed Gull? Or a Goose - Canada (but again not right colouration or shape) or some hybrid?

Shape is more Gull like.

I found it last night when I was rambling through farmland in Northants. I know we get geese and gulls inland but I thought it might be worth mentioning.

It's longer than a mallard!

I too would go for gull of some kind rather than goose.
