house martins

Today ive been trying to take photos of house martims in flight, but failed miserably.
For the whole hour they flew about and went back to barn that was near then back to flying
Ive got a fugi 8000fd and was wandering if anybody could give me any tips on accomplishing it?

Manually focus on some branch, then swing away and wait for bird to come through. Keep speed high.

Even with ultra-fast lens on dSLR it is v v v difficult!!
Bridge cameras usually have slower auto-focus and higher lag time
from pressing shutter.

thankyou, i thought it would be fairly easy before i tryed it. Will have to keep practising at it but i doubt really that the camera is up to it unless i find one sat still . I can play around with shutter speed make it fast or slow but didnt help and they fly so fast.
Im hoping to upgrade soon to a dslr {not sure which yet} but i cant figure how to work this properly yet.
