| | | Bird song ID - what sounds like the theme tune to the Liver Birds? I'm not pulling your leg. I've heard this bird several nights in a north Shropshire field, and it repeatedly uses that four note rift that's in lines one and two of the theme tune to the Liver Birds ('What's got four arms, longs to grab you'). The Liver Birds (On a Mountain Stood a Lady) Theme Song - For those who are two young to remember the show! |

| | | Re: Bird song ID - what sounds like the theme tune to the Liver Birds? Hello vole-woman, I`m old enough to remember the show. I`ve been through my recordings of bird song and can`t find anything remotely resembling the tune. I`m sure some others will come up with some suggestions. Could it have been a `Shropshire Lad` whistling on his way home from work?. ...Bob

A Blackbird that sings at my girlfriends house does a perfect rendition of "All aboard the Skylark".
Here's a link if you don't know what that means: Little Gems - Noah and Nelly in SkylArk, Skylark, All aboard the Skylark
The other possibility is the Song Thrush. They usually pick a phrase and sing it 3 or 4 times, then pick another to sing 3 or 4 times and can continue this for hours.
Blackbirds will merely sing "All aboard the Skylark" or "The Liver Birds Theme" every now and then, in amongst other possible television theme tunes, in quite a nice flutey kind of tone.

- That sounds about right. I'll try and record it, but every time the bird starts, by the time I've turned on my camera, it's finished. It goes 'On a mountain stands a lady' x3, and then switches off.
